John Steele
(1934 -1992)
| John Steele, a native Californian,
was raised on a ranch where during his early years he instinctively began
to sketch and paint. With a vast array of color mixed and blended with
emotion, his images and colors became magical and clear, yet his heart
longed. Packing deep into the mountains above Flagstaff, Arizona, he found his home in the rugged symmetries of nature and the people who lived in harmony with it, The American Indian. In his Cowboy paintings, famous figures stop their lives for a moment to stare at you from the canvases. You can see them thinking - these heroes, outlaws, judges and mountain men of the Old West. |
